Compressed Air System Installation for United Welding Force
United Welding Force selected Nessco Pressure Systems to design, supply and install a compressed air system for its workshop in Welshpool.
The company provides fabrication services for the mining, industrial and commercial construction sectors. Its 70 m x 22 m workshop required a compressed air distribution system that could work with the existing compressor and provide air throughout the facility.
NPS assessed the workshop layout, existing equipment and airflow requirements before designing the new system.
Designing the compressed air system
Our team recommended a 25 mm ring main with 20 mm twin-outlet droppers positioned throughout the workshop.
A ring main allows compressed air to travel around the distribution system from more than one direction. For United Welding Force, this provided an effective way to distribute compressed air throughout the large workshop while supporting consistent pressure and flow at the required points of use.
NPS installed 12 droppers, each incorporating an Infinity Zero Condensate Reducing Tee to help prevent condensate within the main pipework from reaching connected tools and equipment.
Working around the workshop layout
The installation also presented some practical challenges.
An overhead rail crane operated within the workshop, while the existing compressor sat outside the tilt-panel building.
NPS designed the pipework route around the crane and other workshop requirements. Our team also core drilled through the tilt panel to connect the internal compressed air distribution system to the compressor outside.
Planning these requirements during the design stage allowed us to install the pipework without interfering with the operation of the workshop equipment.
Testing and commissioning the system
Once installation was complete, NPS tested and commissioned the compressed air system, including checking the new pipework for air leaks.
Our team also assisted with the air receiver inspection and WorkSafe WA registration requirements applicable to the system.
The completed installation provided United Welding Force with a compressed air distribution system designed around its workshop, existing compressor and day-to-day operating requirements.
