Containerised Compressed Air System for a Remote Oil and Gas Site

Nessco Pressure Systems was approached by an oil and gas company that needed a compressed air system for a remote site in the Gulf of Carpentaria, Northern Territory.

The system needed to operate continuously in a tropical coastal environment. It also needed to support changing compressed air demand across ten pumps located around the site.

NPS designed and supplied a complete containerised compressed air solution for the application.

Designed for the site conditions

Managing heat was an important consideration when designing the enclosure.

The container included an air intake to provide the compressor with cooling and compression air. We also incorporated a ducted exhaust system to remove hot air generated by the compressor and help keep temperatures inside the enclosure as close to ambient as possible.

This provided the airflow and ventilation needed to support reliable compressor operation in the site’s challenging conditions.

Matching changing compressed air demand

NPS supplied a variable speed drive (VSD) compressor as part of the package.

A VSD compressor adjusts its output as compressed air demand changes. This made it well suited to the application, where ten individual pumps could require different amounts of compressed air at different times.

Rather than operating at full capacity regardless of demand, the compressor could adjust its output to match the site’s requirements.

A complete containerised solution

The purpose-built enclosure incorporated the services required to simplify installation, operation and maintenance on site.

This included an entry point for the electrical supply, an isolation valve for connection to the site’s compressed air system and lockable isolation for servicing and safety.

The system also included provisions for managing condensate from the air receiver, dryer and filters in line with the site’s environmental requirements.

By incorporating these requirements into the container design, NPS could supply a complete compressed air package ready for installation at the remote site.

Compressed air solutions designed around your application

Not every compressed air application can be met with an off-the-shelf system.

Nessco Pressure Systems can design and supply compressed air solutions around your site conditions, air demand and equipment requirements. From standalone compressors and integrated packages to complete containerised systems, our team can help determine the right approach for your application.
