Universal Test Bench: Custom High-Pressure Testing System
Nessco Pressure Systems showcased a custom-built Universal Test Bench at the 2016 Australian Oil and Gas Show (AOG).
Known within NPS as the Blue Box, our team developed the Australian-built system for a customer that required a versatile solution for high-pressure testing with fluid or inert gas.
The Universal Test Bench can support testing at pressures up to 10,000 psi (approximately 690 bar) using water or nitrogen.
Designed for high-pressure testing
NPS designed the Universal Test Bench for applications requiring controlled high-pressure testing from a self-contained unit.
The system can operate alongside a suitable safety test cell for applications such as testing process valves, pressure relief valves and hoses.
Our team incorporated the gas and hydraulic equipment, storage capacity, pressure monitoring and required connections into a single purpose-built system.
Universal Test Bench features
The system included:
- Maximum working pressure of 10,000 psi using water or nitrogen
- Internal gas booster capable of increasing nitrogen pressure from 1,200 psi to 10,000 psi
- 10 L gas receiver for high-pressure gas storage
- Hydratron hydraulic pump capable of boosting fluid pressure up to 10,000 psi
- 10 L accumulator that can be pressurised by the hydraulic pump
- Four large pressure gauges to provide clear pressure readings across the system
- Provision for external test gauges or transducers where required for the testing application
- Connections for the required external compressed air and nitrogen supplies
The unit requires a supply of clean, dry compressed air at 100 psi and 60 scfm, along with a 1,200 psi nitrogen supply.

Not every pressure or compressed air application can be met with standard equipment.
